On the 11th of April, Microsoft released a Window update that causes a Compile Error in Hidden Module when you open Electra.

To fix the error, please follow the instructions listed below:
- Close Visio and Electra.
- Look for the following folder:
- Delete all files ending with .exd
- Run Visio and Electra, and the error should be fixed.
Window XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Microsoft\Forms\
Window Vista/7:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Forms\
To browse and open the folder, copy and paste the path above onto your Window Explorer. The "%USERNAME%" will be automatically renamed by Windows to your current username.

Backup these files if necessary by renaming them from "MSComDlg.exd" to "MSComDlg_bak.exd". Once these files are deleted, Windows will automatically recreate them when they are needed.

Thanks for your patience.
Thanks a lot, your tutorial has saved me! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome.
DeleteI think the most recent update (Aug 15/12) has caused the problem again. I deleted the files, but I still get the compile error. Is there a different fix for it this time?
ReplyDeleteTry downloading the installer Trial/Release and reinstall Electra. This is very preliminary and we're still investigating the issue.
ReplyDeleteHad the same problem today (Aug 16/12), had to re-install
ReplyDeleteDid that fix the problem?
DeleteOK, we got everything running again after Windows update on 18th August after downloading the Release/Trial installer and re-installing Electra. Note that you will need to download a new copy from our website and not use an old copy, because the latest from our website have been recompiled with the latest updates. ReplyDeletejust downloaded and installed. Got the error "Complie error in hidden module: clsCrossRef."
ReplyDeleteHi Ang, please check if you are using Visio 64 bits, as Electra can only work on Visio 32 bits. Windows XP/Vista/W7/W8 32 or 64 bits is all OK.
